Please plan to come, even if you aren’t able to bring food due to work hours or other conflicts. There’s always enough food at a pot-luck !! (During the summer months, Wednesday evening Discussion and Prayer has not been meeting. In lieu of that, we have scheduled one pot-luck supper followed by Bible Study each month.) Thank you to all who helped with Vacation Bible School. Joyful kids, joyful servants, joyful service to the Lord, and lots of joyful noise !! Jerry Beaver requested the opportunity to address Council at the July meeting. It had been brought to his attention that at Immanuel Cemetery, we don’t have an Avenue of Flags and the one existing flag was in disrepair. Jerry did extensive research including flag etiquette, cost of doing the project, placement of the flagpoles, and more. He also painted the existing flag pole and purchased a new flag. Jerry reported that at least 27 Veterans are buried in Immanuel cemetery. He asked if Council would be in support of continuing with this effort. Council is in full support of the project. Information for the congregation will be in upcoming bulletins as well as this paragraph in the Lamplighter. If you wish to sponsor a flag on the Avenue, or donate money toward a flag, please talk with Jerry. He welcomes your comments regarding the project. **************************************************** At the July Council meeting, Pastor Northwick announced he will be retiring at the end of September. He was ordained in 1981. Pastor has served Immanuel since April 2002 and has served St. John’s (rural Osage) for several years. Please plan to attend a “send-off pot-luck luncheon” for Pastor and Melissa on Sunday, September 17. More details will be in the next issue of the Lamplighter. Pastor and Melissa will be moving to Circle Pines, MN. We share in praying they will enjoy the Lord’s blessings in this new chapter of their lives. Let’s send them off with joyful hearts and with thanksgiving for their service to our congregation. Cards and monetary gifts can be brought the day of the pot luck luncheon or left at the church office. Council President, Dave Steinberg, Head Elder, Bruce Gerdts, and all church leadership will be sharing information about the call process, who our vacancy pastor will be, and other information. Iowa District East President Saunders has been in touch with Immanuel leadership. They will continue to keep us informed. At this time of transition, it is important that our congregation be in prayerful consideration of all that will take place. We ask our Lord to guide our thoughts and actions, and to bless all concerned.
